On October 26, 2025, the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Psychologists (TTAP) proudly announced its new Executive Committee for the 2025-2027 term, marking a renewed commitment to strengthening mental health advocacy and professional practice across the country. The newly elected Executive Committee brings together a collective of psychologists with expertise spanning various psychological specialties, united by a shared vision to position TTAP as a leading voice in shaping mental health policy, promoting evidence-based practice, and supporting professional development of psychologists throughout Trinidad and Tobago.

Incorporated twenty-five years ago, on October 25, 2000, TTAP stands as the nationally recognised professional body of psychologists in Trinidad and Tobago. Since its inception, the Association has championed education, research, and advocacy to advance the understanding and application of psychological science in service to national development and the promotion of mental well-being.

In her address, newly appointed President Victoria Siewnarine-Geelalsingh highlighted the importance of collaboration, ethical practice, and national advocacy. She noted that TTAP’s continued progress depends on “shared purpose, interdependence, and collective contribution,” particularly as mental health remains a growing public priority.

This leadership transition follows the Association’s successful hosting of the Trinidad and Tobago Mental Health Conference and Awards Ceremony, held previously at the Radisson Hotel in Port of Spain. The conference brought together local, regional, and international professionals from psychology, psychiatry, medicine, education, social work, and community development to share research, cultural perspectives, and strategies for improving mental health access and awareness.

The Honourable Dr. Lackram Bodoe, Minister of Health, addressed the conference audience, acknowledging TTAP’s role in shaping national dialogue on mental health and reaffirming the Government’s support for advancing mental health services, including efforts toward the licensure of psychologists in Trinidad and Tobago.

The conference highlighted panel discussions, cultural reflections, and keynote presentations that examined how mental wellbeing intersects with social systems, workplace environments, and community life. The event concluded with a national awards ceremony celebrating individuals and organisations whose work has made meaningful contributions to mental health and social resilience.

The newly installed Executive Committee members are as follows: Victoria Siewnarine-Geelasingh, President; Kelly Mc Farlane, Immediate Past President; Shivana Hosein, Secretary; Lara Biden-Semper, Assistant Secretary; Idrees Hosein, Treasurer; and Shani Friday, Public Relations Officer. As TTAP moves into its new term, the Executive Committee reaffirms its commitment to advocacy, evidence-based practice, professional development, and building a more psychologically resilient Trinidad and Tobago.
